Useful as child gets older Sep 06, 2010 I bought this and a standard bar lock when my daughter was 2
She is now 5yo, can open the patio lock that came with the door and lift the bar
But she cannot reach this lock at all, her 6yo friend got outsmarted as well
Very good keeps lock out of reach, when she's old enoguh to reach this we won't need safety locks anymore
Very good take your time to install, dry install it before drilling holes
well worth it
product description is wrong! Aug 23, 2010 I haven't actually installed this item yet. In the product description, it very specifically says that no drilling is required. That is untrue. I live in an apartment that we rent. I'm technically not supposed to make changes like that, so I was looking for something that would work well without damaging anything. This lock has to be drilled into the upper track and the sliding door frame. The instructions even contain a drilling template. This lock may work very well, it seems like it would. That is why I gave it 3 stars. Amazon needs to change their description. I probably wouldn't have bought this item if I had known that I would have to drill it into the door itself. If you can drill into your slider door, then this may be a great product. If you're in a rental like me, get permission to put it in before you buy it.

Works but... Jul 22, 2010 I recently purchased the White Door Guardian Patio Door Lock and while it does it's job there are a few issue I have with it.
1) It's not white. Its an off white and no where near the normal disigner white that a patio door is.
2) The Product Description states, "There is no drilling required , just run 2 screws into a keeper plate provided and then into the upper track." I can tell you right now you will be doing soem drilling. In fact it comes with a cutout to help with the drill locations.
I figuired based off the decsiption that the keeper plate would need to be mounted in the upper track using screws but you also have to screw the lock system into the door itself. It comes with 4 screws that need to be predrilled to mount itself to the door.
3) Shipping cost was too much for such a small product. Only reason I went with it dispite the cost was the fact that I was mislead to believe there was no drilling required.
In the end if you want a sliding door lock this will work but in my shoes I feel a little cheated.
Great Product Jul 21, 2010 Our adventurous two year old started opening the sliding glass door and stepping out of the house. We had one of those 3M bars holding the door securely shut but after the two year old saw how it was removed...well they picked up on that quickly. This Guardian Patio Lock is just what we needed. I am fairly handy with tools and installation took about 10 minutes. Before installation make sure your sliding glass door is completely shut and locked so you can get the correct markings. Then you just have to drill the holes and screw the two pieces to their respective locations. I really like the "partiall open" setting which gives you about 3 or 4 inches of an opening to allow air to come in but not enough for someone to escape.

Door Lock May 11, 2010 Needed an extra lock to prevent my 2 yr old from going out on the deck by himself. Very easy to install, took 10 minutes max. Works great, although when the lock is placed in the second hole to allow 3 inch ventilation, it can be just slid into the locked position so you'll need to watch for little fingers that like to close the door by themselves. Overall good product.
