Phos-Free seems to work fine to keep down yellow-green algae in the pool. When I purchased it from amazon, the "People who bought that also bought this"-wizard offered a phosphate test kit, so I purchased it. It turned out to be for home fish tanks, not swimming pools: an error in computer keyword association. Phos-free came with a test kit, so you wouldn't need to buy one anyway.
