Seals Leaked, No Warranty Aug 19, 2009
By K Dawson Lasted two months then shorted out because of "water intrusion." Brookstone will not stand behind. Manufacturer basiscally stated it shouldn't be used in a hot tub. "Hot tubs are very hard on this device." What is that supposed to mean? If it isn't designed for hot tun use and nobody will stand behind the warranty, why is it marketed for use in a hot tub? Brookstone and Research Minder have horrible customer service.

One of the best things I bought for my pool - but it leaks Jul 16, 2009
By FlyingPolarBear Update 4/8/11: I found an improved wireless pool sensor at the local Home improvement store called Acu-Rite model 00617. The Acu-Rite design seems to address the leaky case. The Acu-Rite has 5 screws that hold the top seal instead of just screwing on. The base unit shows a temp graph for the last few hours and days, plus it shows the wireless signal strength. And it costs half the price of this one.
I love this little device. My pool is about 100 feet away from the receiver and displays the temp near the door (before going outside) where everyone can see it. Aesthetically it looks really nice floating in the pool and it comes with a string that I attached to the side of the pool, so it can be docked where you want it. Switch the display mode to show either indoor temp or one of the sensor channels. If you buy this, also order a pair of Lithium AA batteries (according to the manual Lithium AAs are OK, better withstand freezing temps if you live in a cold area, and last much longer than regular batts).
Update: after 2 months in the pool it stopped working. I openend up the unit to find rusty color droplets of water inside - it is leaking somehow. I was surprised because initially I had a very good product impression and I thought maybe the other reviewers just had bad luck. But this leak problem must be very common. I am going to see if I can get it replaced under warranty and when the replacement arrives I may add some silicone sealant to "fix" the factory design problem on my own. It is a truly nice product which has an unfortunate fatal design/manufacturing error.

Has 1 year warranty! May 13, 2009
By C. L. Campbell This is the best remote pool temp gauge I've had (most are leaky crap with a 30-90 day warranty). The pool unit is easy to read even in direct sun. [.......].
It was very easy to set up and after a month it still works. The pool is about 45 feet and two rooms away from the receiver. I tried taking it to ~110 feet away and it still received a signal.
Update 6/3/09: It's still working, gotta love it! Too bad my comments on this vendor were removed by Amazon.
Update 10/25/09: First one lasted 7 months, but you could no longer read the dial due to UV damage. Mailed it back to Minder for a new one which arrived promptly at no charge. It lasted 7 months.
Update 10/3/10: Got another new one in June which lasted 3.5 months even though I always used pool gasket grease, the thing still leaked. Good idea, bad design. I'm done.

worthless device Sep 04, 2010
By pancho This device failed to work from the start and numerous attempts to obtain assistance from Brookstone's customer service department only led to enormous frustration. The first problem with the temperature system is that the battery compartment is extremely difficult to open. You have to be very powerful indeed to open up the unit. The second problem is that the unit leaks so that the batteries get corroded making the unit worthless. I found Brookstone's customer service department to be the worse customer service department I have ever encountered. The "customer service" people I spoke to were uncommunicative, nasty and even abusive. Two different reps made promises to me to replace the defective unit immediately, which did not happen. It took Brookstone two months to send me a replacement and the replacement unit also did not work properly.

Poorly designed Jul 31, 2010
By Daniel E. Hogberg Very attractive unit but it only lasted 1 week. I opened it up to find quite a bit of water had leaked in which shorted out the thermometer. Dried it out and got the temp to register normal again, back into the pool and two days later it stopped working again. It seems as though there is a serious design flaw which easily allows water to get inside and short everything out. Too bad because if it didn't leak it would be a great unit. Returning it for a full refund.
