Description
This applied energy current changes the salt dissolved in the water into liquid chlorine - hypochlorite. The liquid chlorine immediately mixes with the water leaving the chlorinator cell and flows into the swimming pool as clean, chlorinated water. The continuous introduction of liquid chlorine will ensure the continuous sanitization of the pool's water and will not allow the growth of algae. When the liquid chlorine has destroyed the bacteria in the pool, it reverts to salt. This means that the salt is continually regenerated in the process and the only loss of salt is due to backwashing, splash-out and overflow. It may be necessary to add salt to the pool water to bring the concentration back to the desired level of 3,000 parts per million. This form of chlorination will not damage your pool. Chlorine "tablets" or "powder" can damage the pool liner while saline conversion will not. Also, the mildly salted water will not affect the PVC plumbing, filters or pump. Saline chlorination is easier and safer. You will not need to buy or store any dangerous chemicals as you would for a pool.

Couldn't be easier Sep 05, 2010 Simply put: This thing is worth the $$$
Like most people's reviews here, we were having to work at keeping our 18' round Intex pool clean and clear. We were managing it, but it was a daily job. Way too time consuming IMO. I was starting to regret getting the pool for the kids and flashbacks of my childhood and having to constantly clean our in-ground pool was coming back to me.
After much much research and reading what must have been 1000 reviews, we decided to purchase one.
As the title of my review says: It couldn't have been easier.
Installation took literally a few minutes
The salt I purchased from a well known national retail chain for <$5 a bag. (took 4 bags BTW for my 6000+ gal pool) We initially put 3 bags in(I'd rather add more than put too much and have to drain and add water back) and dissolved it all and then ran the system but got the low salt warning. After I added one more bag, it started to run perfectly and has so every since.
Our water is CRYSTAL CLEAR and I haven't added one single drop of any sort of chemicals ALL SUMMER!
This is worth every single penny we paid for it. Can't say how well it will hold up over time, but IMO, with the price of chemicals nowadays...if this only lasts two seasons it would still be worth it. We actually enjoy the pool now instead of dreading to go out there now.
Next season we are going to upgrade our cartridge pump/filter to a nice sand filter and get us a quality robo-vaccum for a total maintenance free swimming experience!

salty dog Aug 10, 2010 Our tap water is very hard (we live in Tempe, AZ) and this saltwater system could not handle it. From day 1 it required kid gloves to function. We constantly had error messages. When it did work, the inner metal plates quickly became coated & crusty with salt/mineral deposits (which starts up the error messages again) and we had to take it apart and spray it off with a high pressure hose once a week. (The manual says you may need to do this once a month at most.) Big pain in the tush. So, our pool was green off and on all last summer, despite our best efforts. If you live where you have hard water, like we do here in the Phoenix area, don't buy this!! (we used this with a 18' diameter, 4' tall, above ground pool)
Code Stuck on 88 (Standby) Aug 04, 2010 The chlorine generator works great! However, if your unit is stuck on code 88 (Standby) and won't respond to up and down arrow buttons, try cleaning the titanium plates as described in the Owner's Manual. It did the trick for me!

Intex Deluxe Saltwater System Jul 30, 2010 This system is great. I had the pool set up before I had the saltwater system and the water had gotten a little cloudy, this system had it crystal clear in hours. The instructions recommend pool salt but I used regular course salt (1/2 the price) and it dissolved just fine. I would highly recommend this system.

Really really like the Intex Deluxe Saltwater System! Jul 30, 2010 Last year, no matter how much I chlorinated my little 10' pool, it would get dirty and slimy and eventually I would get these little, red, fly maggot worms (which pretty much ended my swimming pleasure). I would have to drain my pool, then shock it to kill any gross things and then vacuum then refill. It was a pain and consumed so much time. I have and this saltwater system for more than a month, so far, I haven't had any algae, no wormies, just really clean water. I don't have to keep throwing chlorine tablets, I don't have to neurotically keep cleaning it, just kinda self-containing now. It's really nice and I love it!
