Very useful, but it will leak after a few months Oct 03, 2010
By FlyingPolarBear Update 4/8/11: I found an improved wireless pool sensor at the local Home improvement store called Acu-Rite model 00617. The design seems superior to this leaky one. The Acu-Rite has 5 screws that hold the top seal, and the base unit shows a temp graph for the last few hours and days, plus it shows the wireless signal strength. And it costs half the price of this one! The Acu-Rate is also made in China so let's hope it lasts longer than this one did.
I'm on the 3rd pool sensor. I took steps to protect the second unit by putting silicone sealant around the seam next to the rubber ring. This lasted longer, almost a year, but it still developed a leak right onto the circuit board and was also destroyed! So I finally discovered that the leak also appears to be coming from the seam at the top where the Antenna's grey rubber cover meets the plastic enclosure. Other reviewers are also having the same leak problems if you check out the other reviews on this product. I keep replacing the sensor because so far I haven't been able to find a nicer pool temperature sensor. The manufacturer, Minder Research Inc. is apparently aware of the leaky design problem: the warranty paper says "All RS888 transmitters are 100% pressure tested and are not guaranteed if it stops operating due to water damage."

Short term item Nov 22, 2009

I was pleased to see it came with it's own monitor device. But the in-pool thermometer only lasted about 3 months.
Compatible with Sharper Image Floating Digital Thermometer Apr 29, 2012
By CTO Justin My Sharper Image Floating Digital Thermometer was starting to drain its batteries in a matter of 3-4 weeks and with other cosmetic damage was ready for replacement. I purchased the Brookstone Wireless Water Temperature Monitor through Amazon and am pleased to report that it is a completely compatible replacement for the Sharper Image thermometer. The Sharper Image basestation tunes to the same channels and reports the water temperature in a fully acccurate manner. Although the Sharper Image thermometer was many years old, I do think the Brookstone has better signal range than the old thermometer did when it was new. Since I have second Sharper Image basestation, I'm ordering a second Brookstone temperature monitor for the spa.
Same Design as Acu-Rite Sold at HomeDepot Jun 19, 2011

This is the same design as Acu-Rite sold at home depot. Almost all of these sensors look like they are made by the same company because they all have the same bad design. The leak. About once a week I have to take mine out of the pool and empty it. It reads 158 degrees when it is flooded. If you let it dry out for two days it will work for another week. Also I have to move the receiver around my house until if found a place where it would work. The wireless on this is very weak. Even though my pool is only about 20 feet from the house it would not work. It almost needs line of site to work. If you have an elevated area in your house that can directly see the device in the pool it should work. I like the concept but I hate this design.
